Keep document answers tied to the page

One OCR engineering article, three concepts, and an English exercise for checking document evidence.

Reviewed October 9 · source published October 8. The task is our teaching adaptation, not a model test or benchmark replication.

01Understand the idea

Before summarizing a document, check what was read

Why it matters

A useful paper summary needs the right paragraph, table and units. Learn to spot extraction mistakes before they become confident answers.

Reading note

LightOnOCR-3 separates plain transcription from a grounding mode that adds labeled page regions and chart tables. A location marker does not prove the text or numbers are correct. The authors describe checks for missing content, wrong region assignments and reading-order problems in their training-data pipeline.

02Three concepts

Build on what you know

Multimodal ↗Grounding ↗Human review ↗

Before this step: Model · Context

Source excerpt
“reading the document and locating its content”

One English pattern

I checked … against the original page; … still needs review.

“Check X against Y” means compare X with a reference. Here, visual grounding connects extracted content to a page region; it is not a guarantee of factual truth. The English pattern is our teaching example.

03Try it at work

Choose one page of a public English paper or report with a table or chart. Copy three short items into notes: a heading, a sentence and a number with its unit. Record each item’s page and region. Compare with the original: check reading order, the number’s row or series, and its unit. Mark anything unclear as unresolved instead of guessing. Write two English sentences stating what you verified and what needs review. This manual exercise requires no model installation.

Check your draft

Did you explain the mechanism, name a condition, and make a concrete work decision? Saving records your draft, not a mastery score.
